Manouchehr Bakhtiari Transferred to Prison Medical Facility on the Seventh Day of Hunger Strike

Manouchehr Bakhtiari, the father of Pouya Bakhtiari who is on a hunger strike in Chubin-Dar Prison in Qazvin, was transferred to the prison's medical facility on the seventh day of his hunger strike. According to HRANA, the media organ of human rights activists in Iran, Mona Bakhtiari, Manouchehr's daughter, announced that her father was moved to the medical facility on Saturday evening 'due to a deterioration in his health.' Additionally, Sara Abbasi, Manouchehr Bakhtiari's wife, stated that this political prisoner has not contacted her since November 6. She emphasized that her husband's life is 'in danger' and called on human rights organizations and the 'oppressed people of Iran' to be the 'voice of Manouchehr Bakhtiari.' She noted that the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic has 'ruled for his release three times,' yet the judiciary is unable to release him 'because the intelligence services have full control.' Sara Abbasi expressed her concern, stating, 'The judiciary does not follow the law it has enacted,' and added, 'I am very worried about my husband's physical condition and do not know what has happened to him or where to turn for help.' Manouchehr Bakhtiari, the father of Pouya Bakhtiari, who was killed during the November 2019 protests, suffers from multiple illnesses including hernia and prostate issues, and according to his wife, he requires urgent surgery. Despite forensic medicine stating that Mr. Bakhtiari should be granted a three-month medical leave for necessary surgeries, authorities are preventing his treatment. Manouchehr Bakhtiari has been on a hunger strike since November 7 in protest against the judiciary's refusal to grant him medical leave. Mona Bakhtiari, Pouya Bakhtiari's sister, warned on Thursday, November 10, about the threats to her father and their mother, Nahid Shirpicheh, in the Islamic Republic's prison. The hunger strike of seven political prisoners in Ahvaz is in protest against 14 months of uncertainty. Reza Salmanzadeh, a political prisoner, has gone into a 'semi-coma' due to his hunger strike.
