Marco Rubio: The Islamic Republic Shows No Interest in Agreement

Despite Donald Trump's willingness for a diplomatic solution regarding the activities of the Islamic Republic, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio states that the Iranian government has shown no interest in an agreement. Rubio said in an interview with CBS News on Sunday, February 17, that Washington has witnessed 'no contact' from the Islamic Republic and emphasized that the Iranian government 'has shown no interest in any agreement and has made no contact.' He noted that in its previous diplomatic efforts, the Iranian government was only seeking to extend deadlines while continuing its enrichment activities, supporting terrorism, developing long-range weapons, and creating instability throughout the region. On the same day, during a meeting with Isaac Herzog, the President of Israel, Marco Rubio described Iran as an ancient country with a proud culture that is controlled by 'extremist clerics' who have led the country down the wrong path, causing its isolation and, most importantly, turning it into the largest single source of destabilization and support for terrorism and violence in the world. Meanwhile, Michael Waltz, National Security Advisor to the U.S. President, stated that Donald Trump is 'very serious' about preventing the Islamic Republic from acquiring nuclear weapons. In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Waltz reiterated Trump's position, saying 'Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.'
