Marriage in the Style of the Islamic Republic; Starting a Joint Life with 26 Million Toman Installments

The Islamic Republic is pursuing population growth and implementing the "Support for Youth Population" law, adopting a financial incentive approach that some have termed "money spraying." Accordingly, marriage loans will increase to 350 million Toman per person, meaning a couple starting their joint life with a housing loan and marriage will have monthly installments of 26 million Toman. Mohsen Dehnavi, a member of the Joint Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, announced the proposal to increase marriage loans in the next year's budget bill to 350 million Toman for boys under 25 and girls under 23, and 300 million Toman for other applicants. This loan, considering 120-month installments and a 4% interest rate, will result in monthly payments of up to 6 million Toman for a couple over 10 years. Meanwhile, couples in Tehran currently need to pay about 20 million Toman monthly for a 960 million Toman housing loan. Thus, if a couple utilizes the designated facilities, they must pay 26 million Toman monthly. However, a total of 700 million Toman in housing loans in Tehran covers the cost of less than 9 square meters. In this context, the Statistical Center of Iran, which publishes official government statistics, announced that the average price per square meter of an apartment in September of this year was over 80 million and 800 thousand Toman. The 26 million Toman installments come at a time when, according to a decree from the Supreme Labor Council last Esfand, the minimum monthly wage for workers subject to labor law, married and with children, is about 8 million Toman. The newspaper "Donya-e-Eqtesad" reported on November 8 that for a couple to manage the "monthly installment" of the facilities, they must have a "huge salary." Donya-e-Eqtesad emphasized that the housing loan for childbearing currently covers a maximum of 25% of the apartment price in Tehran, and the 20 million and 500 thousand Toman installment is equivalent to 65% of the expenses of a "childless" couple with a relatively high income. Childbearing and population growth are among the emphases of Ali Khamenei, which has led all agencies, including the health network, to change their policies to realize this directive. Although measures such as the elimination of screening and the prohibition of selling goods and services for pregnancy prevention have been implemented, neither these policies nor the "money spraying" policies for marriage and home purchase have led to the realization of the Islamic Republic leader's wishes.
