Masih Alinejad Joins 'G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council'; Calls for Criminalization of Gender Apartheid

Masih Alinejad, a human rights activist and host of the Persian-language program 'Tablet' on Voice of America, has joined the 'G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council' and simultaneously called in a letter to its members for the international criminalization of gender apartheid. In her letter, the journalist and human rights activist referred to the situation of women in Afghanistan, citing it as a prominent example of gender discrimination in education, stating, 'Gender apartheid is not limited to one country and exists in many countries around the world.' She also mentioned the 'United Against Gender Apartheid' campaign and the collection of testimonies from over 200 victims of gender apartheid, urging world leaders to boldly recognize gender apartheid as an international crime. This human rights activist deemed the support of the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council members for her proposals as very important and expressed hope that through collaboration and collective effort, significant impact could be made in the fight against gender apartheid globally. Eugenia Rocella, Chair of the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council, also wrote in a letter to Masih Alinejad on the same day: 'I am pleased to inform you that you have been appointed for a one-year term as a member of the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council. Your extensive expertise, achievements, and commitment to advancing gender equality will significantly contribute to our collective efforts in promoting women's empowerment and creating a more inclusive society.' Eugenia Rocella considered gender equality and respect for women's rights and their fundamental freedoms as prerequisites for the growth and flourishing of societies, adding: 'We are confident that the activities of the Gender Equality Advisory Council will significantly contribute to the G7's commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for all women and girls.'
