Massive Fire in Northern California Continues to Spread

The fire in California has rapidly become one of the largest wildfires in the history of the state. Officials announced on Saturday that the massive and uncontrollable fire known as the "Park Fire" in Northern California has quickly become one of the largest wildfires recorded in the history of this western U.S. state. According to the California Fire Department, this fire has burned over 350,000 hectares by Saturday evening, making it the seventh largest wildfire recorded in California's history. A 42-year-old man named "Roni Dean Stott" is accused of intentionally setting a vehicle on fire in Butte County and pushing the burning vehicle into a valley, causing this widespread fire. He is currently in police custody. This fire, concentrated in Butte and Tehama counties in Northern California, has led to the mandatory evacuation of over 4,000 people from their homes and continues to spread in a predominantly rural and mountainous area near the city of Chico, about 90 miles (145 kilometers) north of Sacramento, the state capital. According to the latest reports, despite the efforts of over 3,700 personnel with dozens of helicopters and several planes, the fire is only 10% contained. This fire has created a massive column of dense gray smoke that has reached neighboring states. In Idaho, also located in the western U.S., lightning has caused forest fires and the evacuation of several areas. According to reports, people fleeing the fires in Idaho found themselves among the fires in eastern Washington. Local officials announced on Friday morning that there is still no estimate of the number of buildings burned in Idaho or the damages to cities in that state. The National Interagency Fire Center has reported that over 110 wildfires are currently raging across the country, burning at least an area equivalent to 7,250 square kilometers. Among the western U.S. states, Oregon is dealing with the largest wildfire, which has resulted from the combination of two large fires, covering an area of over 1,600 square kilometers. The National Interagency Fire Center has also announced that this year alone, over 27,000 wildfires have occurred across more than 15,000 square kilometers in the United States. In Canada, about 23,000 square kilometers of its forests have burned in over 3,700 wildfires. Many experts link the increase in these wildfires to climate change, which leads to an increase in lightning strikes in areas where vegetation is extremely dry due to unprecedented heat. Climate change has also caused multiple and widespread wildfires in the U.S., Canada, and other countries in recent years. In this context, U.S. media reported last August that the number of victims of the wildfires in Hawaii reached at least 100, marking it as the "deadliest" wildfire in the United States in over a century.
