Matin Hosseini, a Victim of Eye Injury from Protests, Imprisoned

Matin Hosseini, a protester who was injured in the eye during the November 2019 protests, has been imprisoned in Boukan prison to serve his sentence. According to human rights sources, Mr. Hosseini reported to Boukan prison on the morning of September 5. The night before, he had stated on his Instagram page that he would be going to prison the next day. According to HRANA, Matin Hosseini was sentenced to 31 months in prison by the Boukan Criminal Court in May this year on charges of 'propaganda against the regime' and 'inciting or provoking people to war and murder.' This injured protester recently announced that due to his eye condition and the treatment he is undergoing, he was hoping to delay his imprisonment. In November 2019, he was severely injured in his left eye by gunfire from Islamic Republic forces in Boukan, and in December of that year, while seeking treatment in Tehran, he was arrested by government agents at a medical facility. Mr. Hosseini was also arrested at his home last March and released after a month on a bail of one billion tomans. Government pressures on political prisoners, protesters, and the families of victims have continued in recent months, and recently, ahead of the anniversary of the death of Mahsa Zhina Amini in the morality police, these pressures have increased. Meanwhile, the family of Pouya Bakhtiari, one of the victims of the protests whose father, mother, and uncle are currently imprisoned, has reported ongoing harassment. Bibi Zahra Bakhtiari, Pouya's grandmother, in a video shared by her daughter Saba on Sunday, stated that she went to the central prison of Karaj to visit her son Mehrdad, but after waiting for hours, the authorities ultimately denied her a visit.
