Mayor of Khorramshahr City Council Arrested

Iranian news agencies report that the mayor of Khorramshahr has been arrested on charges of bribery. Additionally, a member of the council was arrested during a session questioning the mayor. According to Fars news agency, three other members of the Khorramshahr City Council had previously been arrested but were released after some time. Some experts cite the lack of strict oversight over the performance of municipalities and city councils as a major reason for financial violations in these institutions.
