Mayor of Zanjan and Mayor of District Three Arrested

On Tuesday, Hassan Mozaffari, the public and revolutionary prosecutor of Zanjan Province, stated that following the death of a six-year-old child, the mayor of Zanjan and the mayor of District Three of the city were arrested. According to 'Mizan', the news agency of the judiciary, the child fell into a well that had no guard or cover and died from asphyxiation. The report adds that following the child's death, the public prosecutor visited the scene and summoned the mayor of Zanjan, the mayor of District Three, and the CEO of the urban water and sewage company. The prosecutor of Zanjan Province, referring to the dissatisfaction of citizens in the area with the performance of the Zanjan municipality, stated: 'During the investigations conducted and considering the failure to implement government regulations and inadequate supervision by municipal officials, under judicial order, the mayor of Zanjan and the mayor of District Three have been placed under scrutiny, and further judicial investigations are ongoing, with the final report to be announced upon completion of the investigations.' Meanwhile, Mohammad Moradi, the public relations officer of the Zanjan municipality, confirmed this news to IRNA, stating: 'Due to the death of this child, the mayor of Zanjan was arrested as a suspect for some explanations.' He added: 'It is unclear whether the well into which the child fell had a guard that was removed or if it never had a guard.' However, the Zanjan prosecutor's office announced: 'We will decisively and without any leniency take legal action against those responsible for the incident.'
