McCaul Calls for Resolution Supporting Israel and Condemning the Islamic Republic

The Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael McCaul, on Wednesday urged his colleagues from both parties to pass his proposed resolution condemning the actions of the Islamic Republic and supporting Israel. In his remarks, he condemned the 'unprovoked and heinous attacks by Hamas' on Israel and the Islamic Republic's efforts to support terrorist groups in the region, introducing his proposed resolution as 'Resolution 771' and calling on representatives to pass it with a decisive majority as a practical way to support Israel against the brutal war initiated by Hamas and other terrorists led by the Islamic Republic. He added, 'The decisive passage of this resolution will send a clear message to the world that terrorists and their supporters will be held accountable for crimes against humanity and genocide.' On October 20, the Chairman emphasized the need to limit the resources of America's enemies and strengthen the United States' deterrent power against those who seek to harm America, stating, 'I have introduced a bipartisan resolution to clearly declare that the United States does not accept a nuclear Iran in any way and that the Islamic Republic must not acquire nuclear weapons under any circumstances.' Mr. McCaul, in a meeting with members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, stated that Hamas has committed 'crimes against humanity' and any support for these 'war criminals' is indefensible, adding, 'Accordingly, we are considering a plan to impose sanctions on any person, group, or country that supports Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad.' He also referred to the 'Joe Wilson' bill and the 'No Payments to Hostage Takers' law, stating that his proposed resolution obligates the government to implement sanctions under the Levinson Act regarding hostage-taking and, if necessary, to deny visa requests for certain officials of the Islamic Republic to travel to the United Nations.
