Medical Equipment Shipment for Gaza Support Arrives in Egypt

The Director-General of the World Health Organization announced via a post on X that a shipment of medical equipment for Gaza support has arrived in Egypt. According to Tedros Adhanom, the medical supplies from the WHO have landed near the Rafah crossing in Egypt. Despite the transfer of equipment, resources have not yet been deployed as the WHO is waiting for 'humanitarian access' through the crossing. The WHO chief reiterated, 'We urge Israel to reconsider its decision to evacuate 1.1 million people from northern Gaza. This would be a humanitarian tragedy.' Last week, following the terrorist attacks by Hamas militants on Israel, the Israeli army declared a 'complete siege' on Gaza. This action has made the Rafah crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt the only viable exit for people from the besieged area and for supplies to enter. However, it is unclear whether this crossing is operational. A senior Jordanian official told CNN on Thursday that the Egyptian side claims the crossing is open, but the Palestinian side is 'inactive' due to multiple Israeli airstrikes earlier this week, adding, 'The Jordanians and Egyptians are waiting for security clearance from Israel to allow aid trucks without the threat of further airstrikes.'
