Meeting with Alireza Golipour

"Meeting" is a short narrative about those whose lives are confined within the walls of a prison. In each section of this series, we visit one of those who are referred to as 'political-prisoners' by human rights organizations. He resides in Tehran, was previously a telecommunications student and an employee at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, but is currently held in Ward 7 of Evin Prison under conditions that, according to his lawyer, make him unable to endure the prison environment as determined by doctors. Alireza Golipour is currently 31 years old. In October 2012, when he was arrested by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence, he was 26 years old. He spent the first 8 months in quarantine in Evin without the right to contact or meet with family and without access to a defense lawyer. His first court session was held two and a half years after his arrest in July 2015. A year later, in May 2016, Alireza Golipour was sentenced to 39 years and 9 months in prison by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Salavati, on charges of espionage and connections with hostile governments. This ruling led to an appeal by him and his lawyer, and ultimately, under the application of Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, his sentence was reduced to 12 years in prison.
