Mehdi Karroubi Conditions Lifting of House Arrest on Mir Hossein Mousavi's Release

Hossein Karroubi announced that despite agreements for lifting the house arrest of Mehdi Karroubi, a leader of the Green Movement, his father has sent a message stating that he and Mir Hossein Mousavi were both placed under house arrest simultaneously, and if there is to be a lifting of the house arrest, it must be for both of them. 'I do not want to be released alone,' he stated. In an interview with the Ensaf News website, which is close to physician Mohammad Reza Pzeshkian, he also reported that agreements have been made between Pzeshkian and Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the head of the judiciary, regarding the lifting of Karroubi's house arrest. It is worth noting that Mehdi Karroubi voted for Pzeshkian during the recent voting to replace Ebrahim Raisi, which many critics described as a 'mock election,' and invited people to vote for him. However, Mir Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard, leaders of the Green Movement who have been under house arrest since 2009, continue to boycott elections. Mehdi Karroubi has protested the illegality of the house arrest of the Green Movement leaders, stating that 'Mr. Mousavi and I protested the election results in 2009, and our protest led to us being placed under house arrest for nearly 15 years because of Mr. Ahmadinejad.' He reminded that 'during this time, neither a trial was held nor a judicial ruling was issued, and we were illegally placed under house arrest.' Following the controversial presidential election in Iran in 2009, millions took to the streets with the central slogan 'Where is my vote?' and protesters emphasized the occurrence of 'widespread fraud' in the election. These widespread protests were met with violent repression by the government. Mir Hossein Mousavi, Zahra Rahnavard, and Mehdi Karroubi, leaders of the Green Movement, have been under house arrest since 2010.
