Zahra Minoui, Yarahee's lawyer, stated today that according to the ruling issued by 'Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court,' her client has been sentenced to a total of '2 years and 8 months of imprisonment and 74 lashes.' According to Minoui, based on Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, one year of Mehdi Yarahee's imprisonment is enforceable. Yarahee is currently temporarily free on a bail of '15 billion tomans.' He was released from prison on Tuesday, October 17, one day after his court session. Mehdi Yarahee, a protest singer, was arrested four days after the release of his song 'Rusari-to' on September 6, under accusations that state media described as 'the release of an illegal song contrary to the morals and customs of Islamic society.' This protest artist had tweeted before his arrest, after a judicial case was opened against him for releasing 'Rusari-to,' using the hashtag 'Women, Life, Freedom,' stating, 'Don't cry, I am the nightmare of this judge.' Yarahee emphasized that 'we should be the voice of Izeh and continuously speak about the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's murder.' Kati Amiri Younesi, a lawyer, had previously told Voice of America that Mehdi Yarahee's song 'Rusari-to' was nominated for the 'Best Song for Social Change' Grammy award.
