Member of Parliament: Ahmadinejad has a definitive 12 trillion Toman conviction

Mahmoud Sadeghi, a representative from Tehran in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, claimed that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former president of Iran, has a "definitive conviction of 12 trillion Toman" in the Court of Audit of the country. On the evening of Tuesday, October 5, Mr. Sadeghi wrote on his Twitter account: "According to reliable information, the previous government has a definitive financial conviction of 48 trillion Toman in the Court of Audit, of which 12 trillion pertains to the former president himself." However, this member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly did not provide further explanation on this matter. Previously, in 2013, the last year of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's presidency, the Court of Audit reported a violation of 9 billion and 200 million "dollars" by the government. In July of this year, Mahmoud Sadeghi also reported the formation of "three cases" in the Court of Audit against Mr. Ahmadinejad and stated that a verdict had even been issued in this regard, but this verdict is not being executed. At that time, Mr. Sadeghi told the newspaper Etemad: "Regarding the former president, Mr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, three cases have been formed in the Court of Audit and a verdict has been issued, but it is not being executed." The Court of Audit, which operates under the supervision of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, is responsible for monitoring and auditing the annual budget and financial processes in Iran. Nevertheless, the rulings of the Court of Audit must be reviewed in courts, and the final ruling is issued by the judiciary. Judiciary officials have repeatedly stated that the president of the ninth and tenth governments of the Islamic Republic has multiple cases in this branch, in some of which he is the complainant and in others, the defendant. The news published by Mahmoud Sadeghi, a representative from Tehran in the parliament, was announced on a day when Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, confirmed his opposition to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's candidacy in the upcoming presidential elections. Mr. Ahmadinejad, who some reports suggest may run in the 2025 elections, previously stated that in the remaining year until the elections, the attacks against him will be rampant.
