Member of Parliament: There has been no information on the situation of 10 detained students for several days

While a member of parliament has reported the detention of 90 students by the Ministry of Intelligence, a member of the Education Commission of Parliament pointed out the unclear status of 10 of these students, stating that "we cannot speak with certainty about the authority that detained them." Mahmoud Sadeghi, a member of the Education Commission, said in an interview with ILNA news agency on Saturday, January 6, that the detained students "essentially had no activities in the protests" and that "the vast majority" of them were detained outside the university, with some arrested in front of their homes. He emphasized that a "significant number" of the detained students were those who "are trying to calm the atmosphere," and their detention on the eve of exams is surprising. This parliament member also mentioned that it might be assumed that these detentions have a "preventive aspect," but in reality, they will lead to "more tension in the atmosphere." According to Mr. Sadeghi, 58 students were detained in Tehran, eight in Shiraz, four in Hamadan, four in Kermanshah, one in Khorramabad, two in Qazvin, one in Shahrekord, one in Arak, three in Urmia, one in Isfahan, one in Kerman, two in Dezful, one in Behbahan, one in Tabriz, one in Rasht, and one in Bandar Abbas. He also stated that the number of detained students is 90, with the status of 10 of them being "unclear" and that "there has been no information about them for several days," and it is unclear which authority detained them. Mr. Sadeghi also described the release of some students with "bail conditions" as "concerning," stating that "in this case, individuals who seem to have committed no specific offense will face a criminal record." Parvaneh Salahshouri, a representative from Tehran in Parliament, reported on Friday, January 5, the detention of 90 individuals by the Ministry of Intelligence and emphasized that this agency must be held accountable. According to reports, more than 1,800 people have been detained in 10 provinces of the country, and at least 22 have been killed, but protests continue despite these detentions and threats from the authorities of the Islamic Republic. On Saturday, Majid Sarsangi, the cultural deputy of Tehran University, announced in an interview with ISNA news agency the release of several detained students from this university during recent gatherings and stated, "A committee has been formed to follow up on the situation of detained students at Tehran University."
