Memorial Protest for Zahra Kazemi in Front of the Canadian Parliament - 2003-07-20

On Saturday, July 9, a group of Iranians gathered in front of the Canadian Parliament to protest the torture and murder of Zahra Kazemi by the Islamic Republic regime. During the memorial, many participants carried photos of Ms. Kazemi and placards with messages such as: 'We condemn the torture and murder of Ms. Kazemi by the Islamic Republic regime' and 'Death of an Iranian-Canadian journalist by the Iranian regime.' Several flyers were distributed among passersby. Many local television stations, including New RO, CJOh, and Global, covered the event. Radio Sarafa also reported on the ceremony and interviewed the organizer, Ms. Saye Hassan, on July 18 and 19. The participants stood in front of the Canadian Parliament until 12:30 PM and then marched towards the Iranian embassy while still carrying photos and placards. We hope that the Canadian government will be able to return Ms. Kazemi's body so that the cause of her death, which was due to torture, can be established beyond any doubt. We, Iranian-Canadians, also hope that the Canadian government will condemn the inhumane actions of the Iranian regime by cutting off all forms of communication.
