Messages from the President and Secretary of State of the United States in Commemoration of 'National Immigrant Heritage Month'

Joe Biden, the President, and Antony Blinken, the Secretary of State of the United States, issued separate messages in commemoration of 'National Immigrant Heritage Month.' In his message, Mr. Biden stated, 'America is more than a place; it is an idea that all are created equal and deserve to be treated equally throughout their lives, and everyone should have a fair chance and equal opportunity to succeed.' He added, 'This is what has drawn people to our shores for centuries. This is what makes us who we are. This idea of America has been presented by immigrants from every corner of the world, my ancestors and yours. Their dreams built America, and in National Immigrant Heritage Month, we celebrate their courage.' The President of the United States noted that he and Jill, the First Lady, are proud descendants of immigrants, saying, 'Like many who still come here seeking a better future, our parents, grandparents could not be sure of what life would bring, but they believed that anything is possible for their children and grandchildren in America, and they were right.' Joe Biden has Irish ancestry, and his wife Jill has Italian roots. Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States, was also born to parents who immigrated from India and Jamaica to America. According to Mr. Biden, under the powers granted to him by the Constitution and laws of the United States, he declares June 2023 as National Immigrant Heritage Month. He urged the American people to learn more about the diverse history of this country and immigrant communities and to spend this month planning and overseeing appropriate activities that reflect the values of diversity, equality, and potential. Antony Blinken, the Secretary of State of the United States, also stated in a message, 'We are proud to join our fellow citizens in celebrating National Immigrant Heritage Month and recognizing the countless ways immigrants have enriched American society, economy, and culture.' Mr. Blinken added, 'From the earliest days of our republic to today, immigrants have played a vital role in building our nation and advancing our democratic values and ideals. They have added talent, energy, and passion to every aspect of American society, including diplomacy.' He noted, 'Immigrants working in the State Department bring unique perspectives and experiences that strengthen our foreign policy and advance American interests around the world.' According to him, the U.S. State Department is proud to be a place where immigrants can thrive and contribute to the vital mission of promoting peace, prosperity, and security around the globe.
