Minister of Science Attacks 'Student from Science and Research': 'Did Not Observe Religious and Cultural Hijab'

The Minister of Science in the government of Medicalian reacted to the protest movement of a female student from the University of Science and Research, supporting action against her and stating: 'She did not observe either the religious or cultural hijab and broke norms. The dissemination of this video was also unethical and religiously inappropriate.' Hossein Simayi Sarraf spoke to reporters on the sidelines of a government meeting, saying, 'She was taken to a clinic instead of a detention center, and this was a good decision.' The Minister of Science, without mentioning the 'assault and violent behavior' of the security forces against Ahoo Daryayi, claimed that 'she suffers from family and psychological problems.' Accordingly, the Minister of Science stated, 'It was a very reasonable decision to go to a clinic instead of a detention center and to have her family present there. As far as I know, she is under treatment.' Simayi Sarraf also stated, 'Those who republished this video also propagated immorality and should not exacerbate events that are not morally or religiously justified.' According to reports, Ahoo Daryayi, after 'the assault of university security' on her under the pretext of hijab, undressed in the university courtyard. One social media user wrote about this incident: 'In front of the entrance of Block 1 of the faculty, we saw that the university security and Basij were trying to forcibly take a female student into the security booth under the pretext of not wearing hijab and a scarf, but with this girl's resistance, her clothing (hoodie-like) was torn off, and under the hoodie, she was wearing nothing but underwear, which shocked the security officers, and they released her. Then, out of sheer anger, this girl also took off her pants and threw them at the officers.' In this context, Amnesty International on the social media platform X called on the Iranian authorities to 'immediately and unconditionally' release this student and to protect her from torture and other ill-treatment until her release, ensuring her access to family and legal counsel.
