Modi in Washington: India-US Partnership is the Engine of Global Economic Growth

Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, met with Joe and Jill Biden, the President and First Lady of the United States, at the White House on Wednesday. In this meeting, he stated: "Among the many issues shared between the two countries – including the linguistic legacy of British rule, the democratic political system, and the emphasis on higher education and research – the relationship between the people of the two countries is the top priority." According to analysts, the US and India are preparing to elevate their joint relations to a new level. During his visit to the National Science Foundation in Washington, Modi said: "I am very pleased to have the opportunity to meet with the young and creative minds of this country upon my arrival in the US." According to Voice of America, students from the United States and India presented their advanced scientific projects to Modi and the First Lady at the National Science Foundation. Nearly 2.7 million Indians and people of Indian descent live in the United States. Indian nationals make up nearly three-quarters of the skilled guest worker program and a significant number of university students in the US. Modi said: "Friends! Today, India and the US need to exchange talents to maintain the momentum of growth. The US has top-notch educational institutions and advanced technologies, while India has the largest talent pool for youth in the world. I am confident that the partnership between India and the US will certainly be the engine of sustainable and inclusive global economic growth." Richard Russo, an Indian analyst at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, told Voice of America that the Biden administration "believes that Indians have many serious and tangible achievements that will elevate the relationship to a new level." He mentioned that many of these achievements focus on defense and critical and emerging technologies. Ro Khanna, an Indian-American member of the US House of Representatives, also told Voice of America, "We will discuss the importance of human rights, a free press, and the nation's commitment to liberal democracy. However, strengthening partnerships will be at the core of this meeting." Khanna is the first Indian-American to chair the India-US Economic Group in Congress. According to UN estimates, India's population growth this year surpassed that of any other country, exceeding 1.4 billion; this figure is more than four times that of the US, making it the third most populous country in the world.
