Mohammad Nourizad: I Will Wear a Shroud in Protest Against My Communication Cut in Prison

Pouran Nazemi, a political activist and one of the signatories of the '14 Political Activists' statement, shared an audio file from Mohammad Nourizad on social media platform X on Tuesday, December 25. She wrote that the life of this political prisoner is in serious danger. In the phone call from Evin Prison, Nourizad stated: 'I am not well, my ability to make phone calls has been taken away, and I am now speaking with you through the phone of one of my fellow inmates.' He continued, 'Starting tomorrow (Wednesday), I will wear a shroud because I was taken to the hospital today and there, due to the incidents that occurred in prison, I was beaten and bloodied.' Nazemi also urged everyone to be the 'echo of the courage and resilience' of Mohammad Nourizad. Mohammad Nourizad, a director, screenwriter, journalist, and political activist, is another signatory of the '14 Political Activists' statement, who has been imprisoned since February 2019 for calling for the resignation of Ali Khamenei and changes to the Iranian constitution. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, three years of exile to Izeh, and three years of travel ban. On January 23, 2022, while returning to Evin Prison to serve his sentence, he warned in an exclusive interview with Voice of America that any incident that happens to him in prison would be the direct responsibility of the leadership office, the IRGC, intelligence, and the judicial system.
