Mohammad Tahrir Hosseinpour, Political Activist from Naqdeh, Sentenced to 13 Years in Prison

The first branch of the Revolutionary Court in Mahabad has sentenced Mohammad Tahrir Hosseinpour, a political prisoner, to 13 years in prison. According to the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, the charge against this political activist is 'moharebeh through membership and cooperation' with one of the opposition parties. Mohammad Tahrir Hosseinpour was arrested on September 23, 2023, at his home in Naqdeh and was transferred to the city’s prison after forty days of detention in security agency facilities. Hengaw reports that this political activist was previously arrested in 2021 and sentenced to 15 months in prison for charges including 'collaboration with one of the Kurdish opposition parties' and 'participation in the Naqdeh protests in August.' The issuance of long-term prison sentences for journalists, critics, and political, ideological, civil, and labor activists continues, while the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly condemned widespread human rights violations by the Islamic Republic in a resolution on November 15, 2023. At least four Kurdish citizens were arrested in Oshnavieh; the charges against the detainees are unclear. A citizen from Sanandaj was sentenced to 40 lashes for 'insulting a government agent.' Dana Lanjabadi, a civil activist in Marivan, was temporarily released on a bail of 500 million tomans. Mohammad Moradi Nasari, a Kurdish teacher, was dismissed from work due to a 'negative inquiry from a security agency.'
