Molavi Abdolhamid: Why are Members of Parliament Silent about 'Arbitrary Executions'?

Molavi Abdolhamid, the Sunni Friday prayer leader of Zahedan, during his Friday sermon on May 25, referred to 'arbitrary executions' and the 'discrimination and inequality' prevalent in the country, questioning why members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly have chosen silence. According to the Sunni Friday prayer leader of Zahedan, 'Representatives should visit detention centers [to see] what is happening there.' He further stated, 'Is the law being enforced in these detention centers? The law that prohibits torture and forced confessions.' Criticizing the Islamic Consultative Assembly and its members, he asked why, despite all that is happening in the country, 'no voice is raised from them?' Molavi Abdolhamid pointed out that the detained women and girls are the 'honor and dignity' of the Iranian nation, asking: 'Is their dignity preserved in detention centers?' He advised the authorities of the Islamic Republic to treat Iranian women with respect and to end violence and discrimination against women. Regarding the economic crisis facing the Iranian people, he questioned why the Islamic Republic accepted the dollar at seven tomans, but now the dollar has reached 53 thousand tomans. A group of protesting people in Zahedan once again took to the streets, as they have done for the past eight months, chanting anti-government slogans. In one of the videos shared on social media, Zahedani protesters chant 'Death to the executionist government.' Other slogans included 'Death to the dictator,' 'Death to the Basij,' and 'Death to the Sepah.' The protesting Zahedanis also openly expressed their opposition to the leadership of the Islamic Republic with slogans like 'Khamenei is a murderer, his government is worthless' and 'Khamenei, have some shame, leave the country alone.' Following the massacre of dozens of Zahedani worshippers amid anti-government protests over the killing of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini on October 1, 2022, this city has been the scene of anti-government demonstrations every Friday.
