Mona Bakhtiari Warns of Death Threats Against Her Parents in Prison

Mona Bakhtiari, sister of Pouya Bakhtiari, on Thursday, November 1, referred to her father's hunger strike, Manouchehr Bakhtiari, in Qazvin prison, warning about his life being in danger in the Islamic Republic's prison. In a social media post, she wrote: "The regime killed Pouya and now intends to kill my father." She added: "Today was the fourth day of Manouchehr Bakhtiari's hunger strike. Last night he suffered from kidney failure and urinary obstruction. My father's life is in danger." Mona Bakhtiari also wrote: "You took my brother's life, now my father's life is in danger, my mother's life is in danger, the lives of our entire family are in danger." Manouchehr Bakhtiari, a political prisoner and father of Pouya Bakhtiari, who was killed during the protests in November 2019, sent a voice message from Qazvin prison stating that he has been on a hunger strike since November 7 and that the Islamic Republic is responsible for anything that happens to him. Pouya Bakhtiari was born on September 10, 1992, and was shot in the skull by government agents during the protests in November 2019 in Mehrshahr, Karaj. Manouchehr Bakhtiari was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for launching an international campaign for "seeking justice for his son's life and all victims" during the forty years of the Islamic Republic's rule. The Islamic Republic also arrested Naheed Shirpicheh, Pouya Bakhtiari's mother, on July 9, 2022, accusing her of connections with a "foreign intelligence service" and imprisoned her as well. In August 2023, Mehrad, Pouya's uncle, was arrested for "protesting against the pressures imposed by the Islamic Republic on his family," having previously been sentenced to six years in prison. Manouchehr Bakhtiari went on a hunger strike; his sister called on the people to be his voice.
