Monthly Report from Human Rights Organization on Women's Rights Violations in Iran: Executions, Femicide, Arrests, and Imprisonment

The latest report from a human rights monitoring organization regarding the situation of human rights violations in Iran indicates that at least four women were executed in the prisons of the Islamic Republic between April 30 and May 30, and at least 13 cases of femicide have also been reported. The website "Hengaw" reported on Tuesday, June 4, based on its documentation, that during May 2024, leading up to June 1 in the solar calendar, in addition to the execution of at least four women in the prisons of the Islamic Republic, 14 women activists were arrested, and 17 women activists were sentenced to imprisonment by the judiciary. According to this report, during this period, at least 13 cases of femicide were recorded in various cities of Iran. According to the "Hengaw" report, Fariba Mohammadzahi from Zahedan was executed in Kerman prison, and Parvin Mousavi from Maragheh was executed in Urmia prison in connection with drug-related offenses. Additionally, a woman named Razieh, 31 years old from Mashhad, was executed on charges of "premeditated murder" in Vakilabad prison in that city. Fatemeh Abdollahi, 27 years old from Neyshabur, was also executed in the central prison of that city on charges of "premeditated murder." The report states that the arrest of at least 14 women activists in various cities of Iran accounted for 10% of all arrests during the month. During this time, 17 women were also sentenced to imprisonment in various cities of Iran, 15 of whom were Baha'i women in Isfahan facing prison sentences. The report also mentions the registration of 13 cases of femicide in the past month in Iran, 12 of which were committed by relatives of the women, including husbands, fathers, brothers, or sons. According to this report, three cases of femicide occurred in Kurdistan Province, three in Razavi Khorasan, two in Ilam, two murders in Tehran, one murder in Sistan and Baluchestan, one in Mazandaran, and one in East Azerbaijan. Over the past four decades in Iran, the statistics of femicide have been on the rise, and according to a research report in the newspaper Shargh, in the past two years, a woman has been killed by male family members every four days.
