Morning Consult: Trump's Popularity Rises in Post-Election Polls

Politico reports that a new poll from the publication and the 'Morning Consult' institute shows that the popularity of Donald Trump, the elected President of the United States, has increased in recent days following his election victory. According to this poll, currently, about 46 percent of citizens have a very positive or somewhat positive opinion of Mr. Trump. The same number of citizens also have a completely negative or somewhat negative opinion of him. However, the number of those who have a positive opinion of the elected President has increased by 9 percent since just hours before the November 8 election, rising from 37 percent to a total of 46 percent. His unpopularity has also decreased in this poll, dropping from 61 percent at the time of the election to 46 percent by the end of November. The popularity of Barack Obama, the current President of the United States, has also increased. According to Politico/Morning Consult, Obama is now favored by 54 percent of citizens and disliked by 43 percent. Previous polling had these figures at 50 and 48 percent, respectively. Kyle Dropp, a senior researcher at 'Morning Consult,' states that this phenomenon, the sudden increase in the popularity of an elected President shortly after the election, is a common occurrence. For example, Barack Obama's popularity increased by 20 percent shortly after he first took office in 2008. Half of those who participated in the recent poll have a view of the transition process within the elected President's circle as 'better than the previous term' or 'similar to the previous term.' On the other hand, more than half of the sample population have never heard anything about those Trump has chosen as Chief of Staff (Priebus), Senior Strategic Advisor (Bannon), and Attorney General (Sessions), and overall, 20 percent believe that Stephen Bannon is a suitable choice. The 'Morning Consult' poll also indicates that 59 percent of the sample population believes that Donald Trump should not obtain a background check for his relatives and children to access highly classified government documents. This poll was conducted among nearly 1,900 voters, almost evenly split among Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.
