Mossad and Security Services Foil Hezbollah's Terrorist Attack Plan in Brazil

Mossad and Brazilian security services, in collaboration with other international security and enforcement agencies, thwarted a terrorist attack planned by Hezbollah of Lebanon and directed and financed by the Iranian regime. Three informed sources told Reuters that this group was apparently preparing for domestic attacks and was seeking to recruit Brazilian individuals. The Federal Police stated in a statement that two individuals were arrested on terrorism charges in Sao Paulo, but their names were not disclosed. The police also mentioned that these militia groups were using Brazilians to carry out 'extremist actions in the country.' The police further announced that these two suspects could face approximately 15 years in prison if convicted. They also executed search and arrest warrants in the states of Sao Paulo, Brasilia, and Minas Gerais. The police statement did not mention Hezbollah, the group supported by the Islamic Republic of Iran in Lebanon. Jewish leaders told Reuters last month that following the October 7 Hamas attack on southern Israel and the subsequent bombing of Gaza by the Israeli army, they noticed an increase in online anti-Semitic discourse. Ricardo Berkinsztat, the executive director of the Jewish Federation of Sao Paulo, stated that Jews are currently following the operations of the Brazilian Federal Police with concern. He said, 'Brazil has no history of terrorism, and we hope that the conflict in the Middle East does not spill over here.' Argentina, the UK, Canada, Germany, Honduras, and the United States, as well as many Gulf Cooperation Council countries, recognize Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro stated in 2019 that he intended to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, but this action was never taken.
