Mossad Chief Arrives in Paris for Talks on Hostage Release with Hamas

An Israeli delegation led by David Barnea, head of Israel's intelligence agency Mossad, has arrived in Paris to negotiate with officials from the United States, Qatar, and Egypt regarding a potential agreement with Hamas aimed at the release of hostages held by the group. The Times of Israel reported this news on Sunday, citing Sky News Arabia, stating that they are scheduled to meet and discuss on Sunday evening. Earlier, media reports indicated that William Burns, director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), is expected to discuss the potential hostage release agreement during the Sunday meeting in France with David Barnea, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Abbas Kamel, head of Egyptian intelligence. Previous reports, citing a New York Times article, stated that mediators are close to an agreement for the release of at least 100 remaining hostages in Gaza in exchange for a two-month ceasefire. Two senior officials, who requested anonymity, told the New York Times that this agreement (which is not yet finalized) will be implemented in two phases. In the first phase, the fighting to free women, the elderly, and injured hostages remaining with Hamas will cease, and Israel and Hamas will discuss the details of the second phase, in which Israeli soldiers and civilian men will be released, during the first 30 days of the ceasefire. This agreement also requires Israel to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza. While this agreement does not end the war, U.S. officials hope that such an agreement will lay the groundwork for finding a sustainable solution to the conflict. Hamas militants took more than 240 hostages during their attack on Israel on October 6 and brought them to Gaza. Among the hostages are elderly individuals and children. More than 100 hostages were released during a one-week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, but about 130 hostages remain in Gaza. A British warship has destroyed an attacking drone from the Houthis, who are supported by the Islamic Republic.
