Mostafa Nili: Prison Guards Struck the Tumor Site in Narges Mohammadi's Body

Narges Mohammadi's lawyer has reported that prison guards struck the area of a tumor in the body of this human rights activist, stating that the Nobel Peace Prize winner has requested to meet with lawyers and to be referred to forensic medicine. Mostafa Nili emphasized in an exclusive interview with the news website 'Emtedad,' published on Wednesday, August 15, that according to fellow inmates, the guards at Evin Prison struck her body and 'the area where there apparently exists a tumor.' The lawyer quoted the inmates as saying that medical staff requested 'more precise medical examinations and necessary check-ups' due to the blow and Narges Mohammadi's heart condition. According to this lawyer, Narges Mohammadi has requested to be sent to forensic medicine to examine the 'bruising on her body' and to file her complaint. Narges Mohammadi's family had previously stated in a statement that 'after a protest gathering by female prisoners against the execution of Reza Rasayi, Narges suffered a respiratory attack and chest pain due to several punches delivered by men from military and security institutions to her chest, causing her to fall on the ground in the prison yard.' In part of his interview, Narges Mohammadi's lawyer reported the cutting of her phone contact with family, lawyers, and generally outside the prison since December 8 of last year, deeming it a 'violation of the rights' of this prominent prisoner. Mostafa Nili stated that he has received his client's requests through her fellow inmates over the past months. This lawyer added that on Tuesday, August 22, he shared Narges Mohammadi's requests with the supervising deputy prosecutor of Evin Prison and urged that her medical treatment be prioritized. He mentioned that Narges Mohammadi must submit her complaint through the prison to the 33rd District Prosecutor's Office. Following reports of the beating of female political prisoners in Evin Prison, Reporters Without Borders and the American PEN Association issued statements calling for the release of these prisoners, including Narges Mohammadi, the Nobel Peace Prize winner. Amnesty International reacted to the beating of Narges Mohammadi and other female prisoners in Evin, demanding that independent observers be granted access to prisons.
