Mother of Mohammad Qabadi, sentenced to death, appeals for forgiveness from the family of the killed officer during protests

Following the confirmation of the "Qisas" (retribution) sentence for Mohammad Qabadi by the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic, the mother of this condemned protester has requested "pardon and forgiveness" from the family of the killed special forces officer. Masoumeh Ahmadi, the mother of Mohammad Qabadi, wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, May 24, addressing the family of Farid Kermpour, the special forces officer killed during the nationwide protests for which Mohammad Qabadi has been sentenced to "Qisas" for his alleged murder, "I hope that in honor of your young martyr, you will have mercy on my sick child and, with your boundless compassion and forgiveness, grant a new life to my child, placing a favor upon the family and the heroic father of your martyr." She stated that "we know that the martyrdom of your child is a grief that will never end," and urged the Kermpour family to forgive instead of seeking revenge at a time when they can. The "Qisas" sentence for Mohammad Qabadi, a detained protester, has been confirmed by the Supreme Court after rejecting a request for retrial. Amir Raeisian, Mohammad Qabadi's lawyer, stated on Tuesday that the issue of Mohammad Qabadi's mental health and the surveillance camera footage were not considered at any stage of the trial. The mother of this young protester has previously emphasized that the killing of Farid Kermpour, a special forces officer of the police, is unrelated to her child's case and that the officer's death occurred elsewhere. The increase in executions in Iran comes at a time when the Islamic Republic has been appointed as the head of the UN Social Human Rights Assembly, a designation condemned by the United States. The execution of dozens in Iran, including three protesters accused in the Isfahan house case in recent days, has sparked a wave of protests against the death penalty both in Iran and globally. Additionally, lawyer Mohammad Oliaei-Fard has described the executions as a "political tool" of the Islamic Republic, stating to the Persian section of Voice of America that the judiciary does not adhere to laws and procedures in trials leading to executions.
