Mother of Sharifeh Mohammadi: My daughter has been detained for seven months and I have no news of her

The mother of Sharifeh Mohammadi, a imprisoned labor activist, stated in a video published on social media on Tuesday, "My daughter has been taken for nearly seven months and I have no news of her." She further addressed the authorities, saying, "Tell me what my daughter Sharifeh's sin is! Do you intend to keep her in detention? Her home, children, and husband are waiting for her." The mother of Sharifeh Mohammadi recounted that when her son was captured by Iraqis, she had neither a pillow under his head nor a mattress to sleep on; she only kept her eyes on the door waiting for him to return. Her son returned, and now she is waiting for her daughter. Sharifeh Mohammadi has been in temporary detention since her arrest on December 5, 2023. Her trial is set for June 9 in Rasht, where she is accused of having connections with a "political organization." Her husband, Sirous Fathi, who is also a labor activist, has been following Sharifeh's situation and was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents on June 11. Mr. Fathi was temporarily released from Lakan Prison in Rasht last Friday, June 20, after posting bail. In recent years, as the economic situation for workers and other wage earners has worsened, the Islamic Republic's security and judicial crackdowns on labor activists, teachers, and retirees have intensified. Currently, a number of labor activists, teachers, and retirees are imprisoned on security charges, while others are free on bail. Among those imprisoned are Reza Shahabi, Hassan Saeidi, Davood Razavi, Rasoul Badaghi, Reza Aghdasi, Nahid Khodajoo, Anisha Asadollahi, Keyvan Mohtadi, Reyhaneh Ansarinezha, Sarvnaz Ahmadi, Nasrin Javadi, Zeinab Hamrang, Mehran Raouf, and Maziar Seyednejad. The temporary release of Sirous Fathi, a labor activist in Rasht, has prompted two labor unions in Iran to call for the release of Sharifeh Mohammadi and Sirous Fathi. The court for Sharifeh Mohammadi, the imprisoned labor activist, is scheduled for June 9. The hours have been "hard and heavy" for Sharifeh Mohammadi in prison; a labor organization has called for the release of Shahabi, Saeidi, and Razavi.
