Multiple Explosions Heard in Isfahan; IRGC: It Was an Educational Drill

Following reports of several explosions heard in the city of Isfahan, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attributed these explosions to an 'educational drill.' In a brief statement released in the early hours of Tuesday, August 7, the IRGC's public relations office stated that the sounds of explosions in Isfahan were 'related to the training drill of the commando forces of Amir al-Mu'minin University.' This university in Isfahan belongs to the ground forces of the IRGC. Prior to this, Mohammad Reza Jan-Nasari, the security deputy of the Isfahan governorate, had also declared the sounds of the explosions as 'resulting from training activities.' On Monday evening, several Iranian media outlets and social media users reported hearing explosions in Isfahan, with the number of explosions reported varying between three to five. These explosions occurred amid rising concerns over escalating conflicts in the region following threats from Iran and Hezbollah against Israel. A few months ago, reports emerged regarding an Israeli airstrike on a military base near Isfahan. On April 20 of this year, explosions were heard in Isfahan, after which some media reported that the 8th Tactical Air Base of the Islamic Republic Army, located near Isfahan, had been targeted.
