Murder of 13-Year-Old Israeli Girl in Her Bedroom by a Palestinian

The United States has condemned the murder of a 13-year-old girl who holds dual citizenship of the U.S. and Israel. The teenage girl was killed in her bedroom by a Palestinian attacker with a knife. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacted to the incident by stating, "The horrific murder of the young girl in her bed demonstrates the cruelty and bloodthirstiness of the terrorists we face." John Kirby, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, described the murder as stemming from "lack of conscience." The attacker, who was 19 years old and from a village in the West Bank, killed the girl after entering her bedroom. The teenage girl lived in the settlement of "Arba" (Qaryat Arba), which is also located in the occupied West Bank. Following this murder, Netanyahu ordered the demolition of the Palestinian teenager's house, and the work permits of the attacker's relatives were revoked. The attacker was killed by gunfire from one of the guards at the scene. A photo showing the teenage girl and her family has surfaced. In recent months, with a new wave of Palestinian attacks, primarily with cold weapons, and the response of Israeli security forces, 34 Israelis and over 200 Palestinians have been killed. Recent violence began after a group of extremist Jews entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Palestinian protests ensued. Israel has denied rumors about the possibility of seizing the mosque. Reports indicate that many Palestinian teenagers and young people who have carried out attacks against Israeli citizens are living in poverty and unemployment and have lost hope in the fruitless peace negotiations and their leaders. Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary-General, stated last month that the bloody attacks by Palestinian youth are the result of "fear, humiliation, frustration, and distrust." In response, the Israeli ambassador to the UN described these statements as "a waste of time to rationalize Palestinian terrorism."
