Musharraf: Pakistan has been trying to prevent terrorists from leaving Afghanistan

Pervez Musharraf, the President of Pakistan, stated that any member of the Taliban or Al-Qaeda who has entered Pakistan will be pursued and arrested by Pakistani forces. In an interview with foreign journalists in Islamabad, General Musharraf said that Pakistani forces have been trying to prevent terrorists from exiting Afghanistan, but completely closing the borders is impossible. According to him, a small number of militants may have managed to escape and not be captured. The President of Pakistan mentioned that anyone who has fled into Pakistan will be arrested with the help of the United States. He described U.S. assistance in communications and electronic tracking as beneficial but emphasized that any investigation and arrest of individuals suspected of terrorism will be conducted by Pakistani forces. General Musharraf stated that it is out of the question for U.S. military forces to have control over any territory in Pakistan. He noted that only 12 American communication experts are present in Pakistan. American officials stated last month that a small number of U.S. special forces have entered Pakistan in pursuit of Taliban and Al-Qaeda fighters.
