Najafi: Final Agency Assessment on Iran to be Released on December 1

Reza Najafi, Iran's representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), announced on Friday, November 19, that the IAEA is working on its final assessment regarding Iran and will publish it on December 1. After a technical briefing session, Najafi stated that Tero Varjoranta, the IAEA's Director General for Safeguards, elaborated on a report released by Yukiya Amano (the IAEA Director General) regarding Iran, focusing mainly on the technical aspects of the report. Najafi added that Varjoranta mentioned that all actions under the roadmap had been completed by October 15, and the agency is currently drafting its final assessment, which will be published around December 1. He emphasized that Varjoranta referred to the implementation of the roadmap and confirmed that all actions had been completed by the specified date. According to a confidential agreement between Iran and the IAEA, signed on July 14, issues related to the potential military dimensions of Iran's nuclear program (PMD) are to be resolved. Najafi also mentioned that Varjoranta announced that the IAEA Director General would request an emergency meeting on December 15 to allow the Board of Governors to make decisions regarding past issues. The implementation of the Vienna nuclear agreement and the lifting of sanctions against Iran depend on the country's actions in fulfilling its commitments, including reducing the number of centrifuges, removing the core of the Arak heavy-water reactor, and trading existing enriched uranium for yellowcake. Meanwhile, Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, stated in a letter to the Iranian President that actions regarding the redesign of the Arak reactor and trading existing enriched uranium for yellowcake are only permissible when the IAEA announces the 'end' of the potential military dimensions of Iran's nuclear program. While Najafi reported the readiness of the IAEA's final assessment on Iran's nuclear program on December 1, Yukiya Amano indicated in his latest report that he would present the final report to the IAEA Board of Governors on December 15, following the completion of actions related to the roadmap. In this context, Ali Akbar Salehi described the recent report from the IAEA Director General as 'relatively good' and stated that the agency is 'gradually on the right track.'
