Narges Mohammadi Describes Recent Executions in Iran as a 'War of the Government' Against 'Defenseless People'

Narges Mohammadi, a political prisoner in Iran and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, called on the Iranian people not to leave 'the seekers of justice alone' and urged the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to take immediate action to stop executions in Iran. In a letter from Evin Prison on Sunday, December 5, referencing the execution of Milad Zahraevand, Qasem Abasteh, and a 17-year-old child, she stated that the 'execution machine' in Iran has 'accelerated,' sending a message from the religious authoritarian government to society of continued killings and executions. Mohammadi referred to the actions of the Islamic Republic as a 'war of the government with all tools of repression and death against the oppressed, protesting, and defenseless people of Iran,' adding that these executions are a disgrace to the oppressive authoritarian government and the anger of the Iranian people will make public protests more severe in due time. She expressed her astonishment at how the world perceives the killings and executions of the people of Iran, questioning whether the global community believes that the execution of young people in her country is an accepted norm or that such sentences are handed down based on laws in fair public courts. Mohammadi criticized the authoritarian religious government for conducting ruthless killings under the guise of judicial proceedings, mocking the world with representatives in shiny shoes in the halls of the United Nations. She emphasized that 'what collapses in this process is humanity itself' and deemed mere statements about the executions in Iran insufficient. Mohammadi called for immediate and decisive action from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to stop the relentless and widespread executions across Iranian cities, which are based on unfounded pretexts aimed solely at instilling fear among the oppressed and protesting people of Iran. She urged the Iranian people not to abandon the seekers of justice and to be the awakened conscience and loud voice of those under death sentences and protesting against the continuation of executions. Currently, another protester named Reza Rasayi is at risk of execution in Kermanshah.
