Narges Mohammadi Emphasizes the 'Weakness of the Islamic Republic' on the Global Stage and Praises the 'Heroic Resistance of Women' in Iran

Narges Mohammadi, a human rights defender and Nobel Peace Prize laureate currently imprisoned in Evin prison, referred to the Islamic Republic as a 'tyrannical religious government' afflicted by the 'painful disease of illegitimacy and public disgust,' stating that 'weakness on the international stage is one of its consequences.' In a message published on her Instagram account on Wednesday, April 29, she emphasized: 'In desperation, the Islamic Republic has turned the streets into a battlefield against women and youth to alleviate the incurable pain of its illegitimacy and the collapse of its authority through intimidation and fear, and to soothe the absurdity of its claims on the global stage with petty domination and bullying within.' She praised the steadfastness of women and their civil disobedience against mandatory hijab and the anti-women policies of the Islamic Republic, adding: 'The heroic resistance of the proud women of Iran in the streets and the continuation of civil disobedience have numbered the breaths of religious tyranny. The streets belong to us, and victory is our inevitable fate.' Since Saturday, April 25, coinciding with a large-scale airstrike on Israel, the Islamic Republic has launched a wave of repression against optional dress for women in the country and has significantly deployed government forces in Iranian cities. Some observers say that although the deployment of these forces, titled 'Noor Plan' by the police command for enforcing mandatory hijab, may aim to prevent the possibility of widespread protests. Journalist Hamed Mohammadi stated on social media X: 'More than 300 missiles and drones have been launched at Israel; Putin did not become a ground soldier; their strength only reaches defenseless women in the streets.' According to him, the officials of the Islamic Republic 'unload their military incompetence and humiliations in the battlefield onto the people; they fear protests will start and have preemptively gone into repression.' The government's interference in the lifestyle of Iranians and the suppression of women's right to choose their attire has faced a wave of protests, and the hashtag 'War Against Women' has gone viral on social media.
