Narges Mohammadi, Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Sentenced to Another Year in Prison for 'Propaganda Against the Regime'

Narges Mohammadi's lawyer, a Nobel Peace Prize winner and imprisoned human rights activist, announced that his client has been sentenced to an additional year in prison on charges of 'propaganda against the regime.' Mostafa Nili wrote on social media platform 'X' on Tuesday, June 18, that this ruling was issued by Branch 29 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. The lawyer pointed out that among the reasons for this ruling are her statements regarding Dina Ghalibaf, her letter concerning the boycott of parliamentary elections, and her letters to the parliaments of Sweden and Norway. On April 21, Narges Mohammadi had revealed in an audio message from Evin Prison about the 'beating' and 'sexual harassment' of Dina Ghalibaf, a journalist and student activist. This well-known human rights activist stated in her message that Dina Ghalibaf was transferred to the women's section of Evin Prison 'with a bruised body and a narrative of sexual harassment.' According to information on the Instagram page attributed to Narges Mohammadi, this political prisoner has been tried six times in revolutionary and criminal courts over the past three years, receiving a total sentence of thirteen years and three months in prison, 154 lashes, exile, and four months of street cleaning. The report continues: 'She has been tried and sentenced four times for protesting, exposing, and narrating the abuse and sexual harassment by government agents.' Narges Mohammadi is currently in Evin Prison in Tehran, and multiple requests from international figures and organizations for her release have so far been unsuccessful. Sediqeh Vosoughi stated that instead of Narges Mohammadi, the officer who protested against women should be tried. Support from ten female political prisoners for Baha'i citizens: 'We stand with them to end their double suffering.' Reporters Without Borders announced the launch of a new campaign for Narges Mohammadi's freedom. Narges Mohammadi refrained from attending her court session.
