Narges Mohammadi Refuses Summons to Evin Prosecutor's Office 'in Fifth Case'

Narges Mohammadi, a human rights activist imprisoned in Iran, was summoned to the second branch of the Evin Security Prosecutor's Office on June 18, but like previous occasions, she refused to attend. Her Instagram page announced that her trial is related to her activities as a human rights defender inside the prison. According to information from this Instagram account, the authority in this case is the Ministry of Intelligence, and over the past six months, this is the fifth case initiated against her due to her activities in Evin Prison, filed by the Ministry of Intelligence in three branches of the Security Prosecutor's Office. One of the cases is currently under review after an indictment was issued in Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court. While this human rights activist has been summoned regarding different cases in recent months, she has refrained from attending these courts. The Instagram account states that due to these five cases, over the past six months, Ms. Mohammadi has been summoned eleven times with summonses delivered to her in the women's ward of Evin to branches one, two, and three of the Security Prosecutor's Office in District 33, as well as for trial in Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court, none of which she attended. In her latest remarks published on Instagram, Narges Mohammadi stated: 'The government cannot force me into silence through case fabrications, trials, and successive verdicts.' She emphasized: 'I will not attend any court, and I do not recognize the Islamic Republic, the judiciary, and the court rulings.' Narges Mohammadi has faced pressure multiple times due to her human rights and civil activities inside the prison. In one instance, Narges Mohammadi and Golrokh Iraee, imprisoned in Evin, were banned from visitation following their presentation of a paper at the virtual conference 'Dialogue for the Rescue of Iran,' by order of the Evin Security Prosecutor's Office. Narges Mohammadi, 51, who has a long history of imprisonment and enduring severe punishments such as torture and solitary confinement, is currently serving a 16-year prison sentence in Evin.
