Narges Mohammadi 'Suspected of Cancer'

Mostafa Nili, the lawyer for Narges Mohammadi, announced that based on initial tests, this Nobel Peace Prize winner is suspected of having cancer. On Sunday evening, November 4, Nili wrote on the social media platform X that 'a bone lesion in the right calf area' of Ms. Mohammadi has been observed, which according to MRI 'is suspected to be cancerous.' According to Nili, examining this lesion and diagnosing the potential existence and type of cancer requires 'surgical biopsy' and 'must be done as soon as possible.' Narges Mohammadi's family announced last week that after 9 weeks of neglect by the officials of Evin prison, she was finally transferred to a hospital in Tehran due to multiple physical problems; she was subsequently returned to prison. Narges Mohammadi's lawyer emphasized that this human rights activist needs 'continuous visits' to medical facilities and, given the 'strong emphasis by doctors,' she must 'stay away from stressful environments.' Mostafa Nili noted that in addition to the suspected cancerous lesion, Ms. Mohammadi suffers from several other health issues. He mentioned 'one of the main heart arteries that was stented after a heart attack in Qarchak prison,' 'progression of arthritis and disc diseases,' digestive problems, and 'masses in the right breast' of Narges Mohammadi. This attorney also stated that he will once again pursue medical leave, suspension of the sentence, and the repeated transfer of Narges Mohammadi from the prosecutor's office. Narges Mohammadi, 52, has spent more than 10 years in prison over the past twenty years and has been sentenced to a total of over 36 years in prison. The judiciary of the Islamic Republic has also formed new cases against her during her imprisonment and issued new sentences. In the past two months, international human rights organizations have severely criticized the lack of access of this Nobel Peace Prize winner to medical services, calling for her freedom and medical access. Hillary Clinton, former U.S. Secretary of State, also warned a few days ago that the officials of Evin prison, by preventing Narges Mohammadi from accessing medical care, are 'gradually killing her.'
