Narges Mohammadi to Nobel Committee: Support the People of Iran Until Final Victory

Narges Mohammadi, a political prisoner held in Evin Prison and the winner of the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize, wrote a letter to the Nobel Committee thanking its members for awarding her the prize. She stated, "I thank all of you and want you to support the people of Iran until the final victory." In this letter, which she secretly sent from Evin Prison and was published on the Nobel website and her personal Instagram account, read by her daughter Kiana Rahmani, Mohammadi described the Nobel Peace Prize as a turning point in "strengthening protests and social movements around the world" and added, "Victory is not easy, but it is certain." Currently serving her sentence in Evin Prison, she emphasized the power of the Iranian people's protest movement, particularly the prominent role of women in anti-government protests, and conveyed messages of gratitude and greetings from 46 political and ideological female prisoners to the members of the Nobel Committee. The Nobel Committee awarded the Peace Prize to Narges Mohammadi on October 6 for her fight against oppression and injustice towards women in Iran. Born in 1972 in Zanjan, she has been arrested and imprisoned multiple times over the past two decades. In her latest legal case, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison for "anti-government propaganda." Activist Aliyeh Matlabi reported on November 1 that judicial authorities were obstructing Mohammadi's transfer to the hospital despite her "blocked heart arteries." The Instagram account attributed to Narges Mohammadi also mentioned on November 1 that her medical transfer had been prevented for the second time since September 4, citing her refusal to comply with mandatory hijab laws and "not wearing a headscarf" as the reason. Nasrin Sotoudeh is on a hunger strike and has also refused to wear a headscarf; a copy of the Cyrus the Great Human Rights Charter was gifted to Narges Mohammadi, the imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize winner. The Iranian authorities are preventing Narges Mohammadi's transfer to the hospital despite her heart condition. Mohammadi stated that Armita was sent to her death due to "mandatory hijab." The Human Rights Defenders Center awarded a human rights statue to Narges Mohammadi.
