Narges Mohammadi's Transfer to Hospital Prevented 'Three Times' in the Past Month

The family of Narges Mohammadi, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, reports that security and judicial authorities have prevented this political prisoner from being transferred to the hospital for angiography 'three times' in the past month. An Instagram account attributed to Ms. Mohammadi reported on Thursday, October 4, citing her family, that these authorities blocked her from leaving prison on the dates of September 11, September 18, and October 4. According to the report, despite the doctor's recommendation for immediate 'angiography' and the follow-ups by Narges Mohammadi's lawyers with the prosecutor's office, the prison administration, and the medical department of Evin Prison, permission for her release has not been granted. Narges Mohammadi's family further stated: 'Repeated preventions and oppositions from security and judicial authorities, without accountability in the treatment and medical care process for Narges, clearly target her health and are a matter of concern.' They added, 'After the announcement from the medical department, the health deputy, and the prison administration regarding the issuance of a transfer permit by the prosecutor's office for Narges, once again on the day of transfer, October 4, permission to leave the prison was not granted.' The Instagram page of Narges Mohammadi also wrote: 'Prison officials announced that the prosecutor's permit and transfer permit had been issued, but we faced an order opposing Narges's exit and transfer from outside the prison, making the transfer impossible.' The Strategic Committee of the International Coalition for 'Freedom for Narges' on September 21 this year, ahead of the UN General Assembly meeting, urged the global community to use this opportunity for the immediate and unconditional release of Narges Mohammadi, the Nobel Peace Prize winner. The coalition's request from world leaders ahead of the UN meeting emphasized the health condition of Narges Mohammadi, which has 'significantly endangered in Evin Prison in recent months,' calling for 'diplomatic intervention' from world leaders at the UN meeting to save Ms. Mohammadi's life. The statement also recalled Narges Mohammadi's heart and lung ailments and referred to the results of her recent medical examinations and the 'discovery of a mass in her chest,' which is concerning and requires continuous monitoring. Narges Mohammadi, who has been in Evin Prison since November 2021, was sentenced to another year in prison in June on charges of 'propaganda against the regime.' Reports indicate that this imprisoned human rights activist suffers from 'serious heart and lung disease,' and human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, have previously expressed concern about Narges Mohammadi's health status.
