Narges Mousavi: Five Thousand Days Have Passed Since the 'Unjust' House Arrest

Narges Mousavi, daughter of Mir Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard, states that five thousand days have passed since the house arrest of her parents and Mehdi Karroubi began, but even five hours of it is 'pure injustice and lawlessness,' and enduring it is 'hard and heavy.' On Thursday, November 25, she wrote on Instagram that her parents 'have remained loyal to their promise to the people and have not compromised on the rights of the people.' She continued, 'The dilapidated house of Akhtar has been transformed from its original identity of personal space and residence into a security prison, far from oversight, for nearly 14 years.' Narges Mousavi noted the security pressures on her parents in this house, stating, 'The doors are still locked by the jailers,' and 'cameras, eavesdropping, and jamming are still in place.' The house arrest of Mir Hossein Mousavi, Zahra Rahnavard, and Mehdi Karroubi began on February 14, 2011, and they remain under house arrest without trial or any court proceedings. Initially, it was announced that these individuals were placed under house arrest based on a resolution by the Supreme National Security Council, but later statements from Iranian officials, including the former commander of the police force, indicated that their house arrest was implemented by order of Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic. Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, two candidates from the controversial 2009 presidential election, whose supporters refer to them as 'leaders of the Green Movement,' declared Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's victory in that election as a result of vote rigging and military intervention. That year's election ultimately led to widespread protests in the capital and other cities, which the Iranian government violently suppressed. Following the victory of Masoud Pezeshkian in this year's presidential election, unconfirmed reports have emerged about negotiations to lift the house arrest of Rahnavard, Karroubi, and Mousavi. Besides Gholamhossein Karbaschi, a senior figure of the Executives of Construction Party who stated that 'through the efforts of Masoud Pezeshkian, lifting the house arrest has reached positive results,' Mehdi Karroubi's son has also confirmed this news. Hossein Karroubi, in an interview with Ensaf News, stated that 'last week, a message was sent from Mr. Pezeshkian, the President, and Mr. Ejei, the head of the judiciary, indicating that they are seeking to lift Mr. Karroubi's house arrest and agreements have been made.' He quoted his father as saying that he wants his house arrest lifted along with Mir Hossein Mousavi, and if not, 'I do not want a solitary lifting of the house arrest.'
