Nasim Sabati, a Baha'i citizen, summoned to serve a sentence of three years and eight months in prison

The Mashhad Prosecutor's Office has summoned Nasim Sabati, a Baha'i citizen, to serve her sentence of three years and eight months in prison. According to human rights sources, she must report to Branch 21 of the Mashhad Prosecutor's Office by April 15. According to the website 'Human Rights in Iran', Nasim Sabati, after being summoned and informed of the charges in August 2023, along with three other Baha'i women residing in Mashhad, Azita Foroughi, Roya Ghaneh Azabadi, and Soheila Ahmadi, was tried in October 2023 in Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad. They were sentenced to three years and eight months in prison on charges of 'propaganda against the regime' and 'membership in a group or quasi-group with the intent to undermine national security.' Following the confirmation of this sentence by judges in Branch 35 of the Razavi Khorasan Province Court of Appeals on December 30, the maximum penalty of three years in prison has become enforceable for these four Baha'i citizens. Earlier, HRANA, the news agency of human rights activists in Iran, reported that the appeal court for these citizens was held 'without their knowledge and that of their defense attorney.' Baha'i citizens in Iran have systematically faced execution, widespread social and political discrimination, and illegal actions including arrests and desecration of their cemeteries since the 1979 Revolution. The repression of Baha'is by the Islamic Republic has always faced international protests. In a report on Monday, April 2, Human Rights Watch described the Islamic Republic's actions against the Baha'i minority as 'crimes against humanity.' Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, also emphasized that Washington, while condemning these actions, will utilize all available tools to combat human rights violations by the 'Iranian regime.'
