National Council of Resistance Accuses Rouhani of Designing Failed Attack on Its Annual Meeting

The National Council of Resistance of Iran, of which the Mojahedin-e Khalq is the largest group, accused Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran, of being involved in the design of a failed bombing at the council's ceremony held in July this year in the suburbs of Paris. The council also called for the trial and punishment of those responsible for planning and executing this act 'regardless of political consequences.' In a press conference held on Wednesday, August 22, in Berlin, Shahin Qabadi, a spokesperson for the National Council of Resistance, announced that the decision to bomb the annual meeting of this political organization was made in Iran's Supreme National Security Council, chaired by Hassan Rouhani, and this decision was also approved by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic. The Belgian prosecutor's office announced in mid-July that an Iranian couple had been arrested on charges of plotting an attack on the National Council of Resistance's conference. Simultaneously, German officials reported the arrest of an Iranian diplomat stationed in Austria in connection with this case, and it was also reported that another Iranian was arrested in France in relation to this matter. In the press conference on Wednesday, Mr. Qabadi, referring to these arrests, reminded that 'the Iranian government, which is the main state sponsor of terrorism in the world, has increased its level of terrorist operations in Europe and North America, and the world must be vigilant against these actions.' The United States, which considers Iran the main state sponsor of terrorism in the world, withdrew from the nuclear agreement with Iran in May, believing that this agreement had failed to prevent the Iranian government's destructive behaviors. On the other hand, the European Union and some senior European officials, emphasizing the preservation of the JCPOA, are calling for separate negotiations with Iran regarding other behaviors of the Islamic Republic. However, the spokesperson for the National Council of Resistance, in the Berlin press conference, rejected the idea of dialogue with the Islamic Republic and emphasized that the way to confront the actions of the Iranian government is 'toughness' against it. In this conference, Javad Dabiran, another spokesperson for the National Council of Resistance, also reminded that this council demands that those responsible for the failed attack on its annual meeting be tried and punished 'regardless of political consequences.' He added: 'It is unacceptable for a terrorist government to be able to operate in free countries and for the issue to be resolved through political channels.' The Islamic Republic, which has long regarded the Mojahedin-e Khalq as a terrorist group and seeks to deal with its supporters in Europe and America, has rejected the claim of involvement in the failed attack on the National Council of Resistance's conference, describing this case as a 'scenario' to undermine relations between Iran and Europe.
