NATO Military Committee Chairman: Ukraine Has a 'Legal and Military' Right to Attack Deep into Russian Territory

On Saturday, September 24, the Chairman of NATO's Military Committee stated that Ukraine has a 'strong legal and military right' to attack deep into Russian territory to achieve military superiority. Rob Bauer, during a joint press conference with General Karel Řehka, Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces in Prague, said, 'Ukraine's attacks deep into Russian territory using long-range missiles are completely legitimate.' He added, 'NATO is working to assist Ukraine in its ability to defend itself by ensuring supplies and ongoing training for Ukrainian forces.' Karel Řehka also stated at the press conference, 'We do not impose any restrictions on how Kyiv uses its weapons, and we believe that Ukrainians should decide for themselves how to use these weapons.' These remarks come as U.S. President Joe Biden is considering whether to allow Ukraine to use long-range weapons provided by the U.S. to attack deep into Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly called for the lifting of restrictions on the use of Western long-range weapons to target strategic areas in Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated that granting Ukraine permission to use long-range missiles to attack targets in our territory would amount to direct NATO member involvement in the war against Russia. After receiving permission to use F-16 fighter jets from NATO, Ukraine reportedly captured about 1,300 square kilometers of Russian territory in a surprise attack in the Kursk region and caused approximately 6,000 Russian casualties.
