Navid Negahban: I'm Happy to Be Part of the Story in Season Two of 'Night Agent'

The second season of the series 'Night Agent', which has aired on Netflix, is considered one of the popular collections of this streaming service worldwide. This action-spy series depicts the adventures of Peter Sutherland, a young agent of the FBI, played by Gabriel Basso, who is recruited by a special security division of the United States to serve as a 'Night Agent'. He faces various challenges and complex stories, having to confront villains and criminal groups that threaten national security and American interests. The events of the second season are somewhat related to Iran, and in some episodes, characters associated with the Islamic Republic and Iranian figures appear. Navid Negahban, a prominent Iranian actor, is one of the figures featured in the new season, portraying 'Abbas Mansouri', the ambassador of the Islamic Republic to the United Nations in New York. Mr. Negahban expressed his happiness about acting in 'Night Agent', telling Voice of America that he enjoyed depicting the character Abbas and exploring the complexities of his personality. He adds that 'Abbas is a father who is in a difficult situation, caught between his love for his daughter and his professional commitments.' Navid Negahban, who has experience acting in various works, discusses playing Iranian characters, saying, 'Connecting with Iranian characters is very easy; for example, in the case of Abbas, I just had to find the core of the character, the man or the father, and then allow him to move within the framework of the characteristics desired by the creators and writers.' He adds, 'But the key point is to avoid judging your character, as the biggest trap for an actor is to decide who the character is and what they should do instead of allowing the character's journey to lead.' One interesting aspect of this season is the presence of several young Iranian-American actors, including Aryan Mandi, who appear in various episodes. Unlike some cinematic and television works produced in Western countries, these actors speak fluent Persian and use contemporary words and expressions that make their performances very believable for Persian-speaking audiences. Navid Negahban confirms this, saying, 'We had an incredible group of Iranian talents, both in front of and behind the camera, working with us. One of the main writers of this series is Enayat Fakhrayi, and our Persian dialect coach-translator was Sad Nami, who also played the role of Shokat in one of the episodes.' Mr. Negahban recalls that acting in 'Night Agent' was a delightful experience, and he is very happy to have been part of the complex stories of the second season. The series 'Night Agent' is based on a novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk, created by Sean Ryan, a well-known television writer and producer, and is considered one of Netflix's most successful products.
