Nazanin Zaghari, Iranian-British Citizen, Arrested While Exiting Iran

According to reports, Nazanin Zaghari, an Iranian-British citizen who traveled to Iran with her infant daughter, was arrested last month while attempting to leave Iran and is currently in prison. Websites such as HRANA, BBC Persian, and the Facebook page for Secret Freedoms in Iran reported that Ms. Zaghari was detained at Tehran Airport on April 15 of this year. These sources state that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps took Nazanin Zaghari to an undisclosed location in Kerman Province after her arrest at Tehran Airport. Based on reports and statements from Ms. Zaghari's family, she has complained about being under pressure and claims she has been asked to sign documents. Judicial authorities, the Ministry of Intelligence, and the Revolutionary Guard have not released any information regarding this matter, and it remains unclear what charges Nazanin Zaghari has been arrested and imprisoned for. Nazanin Zaghari, who has a British husband and is sometimes referred to by her full name Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, is 37 years old and worked as a project manager at the Thomson Reuters Foundation. She has been employed at this institution since 2011. Ms. Zaghari began her public relations activities in 2004 with the International Red Cross in London and subsequently worked for three years in the same capacity with the World Health Organization.
