Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe 'likely returned to solitary confinement'

Richard Ratcliffe, the husband of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, the Iranian-British citizen detained in Iran, says he has been out of contact with her since June 5 and that she has likely been returned to solitary confinement. Nazanin Zaghari, an Iranian-British citizen who traveled to Iran with her infant daughter, was arrested in April while trying to leave Iran, her child was taken from her, and she is currently in prison. The Thomson Reuters Foundation stated in a notice provided to Radio Farda that Ms. Zaghari has managed some of the foundation's projects for the past four years, but these projects have no connection to Iran, and she traveled to her homeland to visit her family. The Telegraph reported on June 14 that her nearly daily phone calls with her family have been cut off since June 5 (eight days prior), and it is unclear where she is being held. The newspaper quoted Mr. Ratcliffe as saying, 'I think she has been returned to solitary confinement.' Richard Ratcliffe added, 'Everything we know indicates she has been taken to solitary confinement. This is really concerning. She had clearly expressed hope that she would be out of prison for Gabriella's (the Ratcliffe family's daughter) birthday.' The British passport of the Ratcliffes' two-year-old daughter has been confiscated, and she is staying with her maternal family. The Islamic Republic does not allow children of Iranian women who marry non-Iranian men to obtain citizenship of their motherland. Ms. Zaghari was arrested in mid-April at Tehran airport, the reason for her arrest is unclear, and it is also unknown why she was transferred to an undisclosed location in Kerman province after her arrest. After being transferred to Kerman, she apparently spent some time in solitary confinement and was then moved to the general ward on May 18, a month ago, and allowed to meet with her family and daughter. Richard Ratcliffe said he is currently not even sure where his wife is being held.
