Negar Korkor Claims Her Brother's Life is in Danger in Prison

Negar Korkor, the sister of Mojahid Korkor, one of the detainees from Izeh during the nationwide protests of 2022, wrote on her account on X that her brother's life is in danger. On Friday, August 19, Negar Korkor called on everyone to be the voice of her imprisoned brother, who has been sentenced to death. Mojahid Korkor, 40 years old and from Izeh, has been accused by the Iranian judiciary of involvement in the shooting incident on November 25, 2022, in Izeh, where seven residents, including 9-year-old Kian Pirfalak, were killed amidst the nationwide protests for "Women, Life, Freedom." However, Kian Pirfalak's parents have repeatedly stated in video messages that their child was killed by government forces and that they do not hold Mojahid Korkor responsible. In an official complaint, which they published a photo of, they identified the judicial agents of the Islamic Republic, namely military and police forces, as responsible for shooting at their vehicle and the death of Kian Pirfalak. After the execution of Reza Rasai, another protester who was recently executed on charges of killing a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Negar Korkor also wrote on her X account that Reza Rasai was executed in silence and that her brother Mojahid should not suffer a similar fate in silence. The court hearing for the charges against Abbas Korkori, known as Mojahid Korkor, was held in Esfand 1401 (February-March 2023), where the Iranian judiciary identified him as the "main suspect" in the shooting in Izeh and issued a death sentence for him. Prior to this trial, Iranian intelligence and judicial institutions had accused several other protesters, in addition to Mojahid Korkor, of being involved in the shooting at other protesters in Izeh on November 25, 2022. Political and security prisoners in Iran often do not enjoy the ordinary rights of a defendant, especially the right to a chosen lawyer, and the judiciary issues heavy sentences based on forced confessions obtained by intelligence agencies. The severe governmental crackdown and the danger of protests going "underground" are evident from what doctors and eyewitnesses recount about the injured during the protests.
