Negotiations for Ceasefire Continue; Sudan's Capital Bombarded Again

Parts of Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, were targeted by shelling and airstrikes on Sunday, as negotiations for a ceasefire continue in Saudi Arabia. According to a Reuters report, Khartoum and its neighboring cities, Bahri and Omdurman, along with the Darfur region in the west, have once again become the main scenes of conflict. The Sudanese army, led by 'Abdel Fattah al-Burhan,' has been engaged in fighting with the Rapid Support Forces, led by 'Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo,' since mid-April of this year. A resident near Khartoum airport, which has been closed since the fighting began, told Reuters that intermittent clashes occurred throughout Sunday. The United Nations announced on Sunday that the conflict in Sudan has so far resulted in at least 676 deaths and 5,576 injuries. However, many reports of missing persons and unburied bodies have been published, and the death toll is expected to be higher than this figure. Since the outbreak of internal conflict in Sudan, around 200,000 people have fled to neighboring countries, and more than 700,000 have been displaced within Sudan. The ongoing fighting in Sudan comes on the eve of a new round of ceasefire negotiations in Jeddah. The number of 'internally displaced persons' worldwide has reached 71 million. The UN migration agency reports that the number of displaced individuals in Sudan has reached 700,000. The fighting continues in Sudan as mediators seek to establish a ceasefire.
